There was drama in a Mombasa court when a case where an alleged fraudster conned families out of their monies came out for mentioning in a Mombasa court. The self styled conman, who poses as senior government official attached at the Kenya Revenue Authority in Mombasa, got a rude shock when a warrant of arrest was issued against him for frequently lying to the court that he was admitted at the Coast General Hospital.
This follows investigations by the prosecution that the accused, Francis Oyieko, has been on the run since he was bailed out.
Interestingly, it was revealed that the said the shares used to bail him out were not sufficient, according to a document seen by the state prosecution. Oyieko’s criminal case No 2308/14 was charged alongside Silvanus Okiri Marende and another not before court.
The said the conman is now believed to be persona non grata in the coastal city which was once gasping to bring back his lost glory following revelation of terror attacks witnessed last year, where dozens lost their lives.
The softspoken, potbellied and a Class Eight dropout of Nyarongi Primary School in Migori county is also being pursued by detectives from Kilimani Police Station, when he allegedly conned the chief government pathologist Jannsen Oduor of Sh1.6 million by posing as senior customs officer based in Mombasa and that he would sell him a Toyota Harrier that was at their disposal at the custom’s warehouse at Kilindini.
Sources wondered whether the affected families will get justice with the mass transfers of magistrate and court clerks at the Mombasa Lawcourts.
Those privy to the goings-on say that they are housed in Umoja by a Tanzanian national, a one Damiana Chacha alias Baba Ngolo. The name Babangolo features mostly in Bamburi, Kisauni constituency. They said Tanzania has numerous warrants arrest in Mombasa court.
