HOMA BAY SALVATION FRONT PLEADS

A lobby group calling itself Homa Bay County Salvation Front has called for dialogue in solving the ongoing wrangles between the elected leaders in Homa Bay county saying they should work together to lift the living standards of their people.

Led by Aguko Mayora and Jack Otiu, they said continued conflict between the Homa Bay governor and some members of parliament from the county have become a real threat to development and service delivery to locals.

Homa Bay governor Cyprian Awiti and some MPs from the area including James Rege, (Karachuonyo) Oyugi Magwanga (Kasipul) and Agustino Netto (Ndhiwa) have been trading accusations over misuse of public funds.

On the other hand, there has been a titanic battle of supremacy between the Homa Bay ODM branch office bearers pitting two factions led by Senator Otieno Kajwang and the former Rangwe MP Martin Ogindo. The ODM party held it last branch elections on November 27 2011 during the branch delegate meeting in Homa Bay town.

During the meeting, Senator Kajwang was elected the branch chairman with Ogindo as his vice Rege was elected branch secretary while Monica Amolo and Aguko Mayora were elected treasurer and assistant treasurer respectively.

From then, ODM politicians with their supporters have incessantly displayed rivalry both in private and public. They have even tried ouster Kajwang.

With such hostility, they wondered whether the leaders will have peace in the newly created county development board. The controversial board will be chaired by the county senator. They urged leaders from the county including the governor, senator and other political players to initiate dialogue between all stakeholders to iron out the contentious issues raised by different parties.

“No one is perfect, we all have challenges in life, but as human beings, we should always strive for the best in spite of our shortcomings and embrace peaceful co-existence,”  added Mayora.
